You know why people groan when you mention making a New Year’s resolution? (Because they don’t know how to do it in a way that works.)
For me, setting my New Year’s resolution has become one of my favorite holiday traditions! Learning to birth a resolution I can keep in the spirit of a better new year has improved my life in so many meaningful, rewarding ways. As a health coach, I would love to turn you onto this practice.
Why make ‘em if I’m only going to break ‘em?
Hello out there, doubters! Contrary to widespread opinion, a good amount of people actually do keep them! In fact 40% to 46% of New Year’s resolvers will still be successful at six months. And even more compelling, people who set personal goals around the new year are TEN TIMES more likely to successfully change, compared to non-resolvers who try and set personal goals randomly throughout the year. All said, there is weighty evidence that a fresh new year is a GREAT time to pause, set an intention or personal goal, and make way for change.
Missed the January boat? I also like to make resolutions around my birthday, the start of the school year, and around the summer solstice. (These are times I tend to get reflective, look back, and bring focus to what I want to create next.) It’s never too late to bring a new habit, behavior or dream into being! Whether it’s January or June, a new beginning is possible.
So how do we make resolutions that stick?
All will be revealed in class, my budding resolvers! I’ll share with you my own method for setting resolutions that you’ll stick with, including a few nifty tools I’ve gleaned from cutting-edge, really nerdy, but amazingly helpful brain research. We’ll also cover some tried and true research-proven tips for creating and keeping your resolutions. By the end of class, you’ll have all the change-making stuff you need and the OH YEAH! to do it. All that’s left for you is to put your personal formula to work, and you’ll rock your resolution.
